Event Details

Lady Driver contains the stories of 12 lady drivers trained by Azad Foundation in India.

It has been edited by Jayawati Shrivastava and the various stories have been written by Runu Chakraborty, Sunita Thakur, DeeptiPriya Mehrotra, Meenu Vadera, Anita Mathur and Shrinivas Rao. Lady Driver is being published by Zubaan in English and Yatra in Hindi.

The storytellers base these stories on detailed narrative interviews with the drivers bringing together complex and unique stories of aspirations, struggles, setbacks and ongoing journeys. In that sense, Lady Driver is a story without an end…much like the process of empowerment. Lady Driver is not only Azad’s tribute to the margins, the women who dared tread spaces traditionally closed to them, but also a unique attempt to document and foreground voices from the ground and lived experiences of struggle and change, which resonate with all women in a similar position.
