INDORE WOMEN LEARN TO SPEED AHEAD IN LIFE

The Women on Wheels (WOW) programme in in Indore got off to a kickstart on May 25, 2015 with 13 women passing the learner’s license test, taking the first step towards becoming professional drivers.

The Azad Foundation team met the District Transport Commissioner, Archana Mishra a day before to to acquaint her with the programme. She offered to accompany the women for the test and invited media as well as social workers to the RTO to talk about the WOW programme before the test.

At least 30 journalists from the print and digital media turned up for the event and spoke to the women. Following this, the District Transport Commissioner accompanied the women for the test.

This whole process was broadcast on many news channels in Indore and other parts of Madhya Pradesh. Zee News, Sahara Samay, B TV and City Channel aired the news many times from morning till 9pm.

The team was invited to the Zee News studio for a live telecast. The next day, all the women were invited to the Red FM studio, a popular radio channel in Indore. The RJ’s interaction with the women was broadcasted live.

Local newspapers gave prominent coverage to the WOW programme on May 26.

All of this brought the WOW programme to the forefront and helped create an enabling environment in the city. We’re looking forward to working with more and more women in Indore and empowering them to transform their lives.
