Azad is my second family

Azad Foundation India-Mary

Chhattisgarh’s Mary Sadumha is a 22-year-old B.A graduate and is the oldest daughter of her parents. Her parents work as labourers, but regardless of their economic situation, they supported her education. However, despite trying hard, she was not able to find work in her home state after graduating and because she wasn’t able to find a job, her father wanted to get her married against Mary’s wishes. Marry wanted her studies to lead to something, so she kept up the search.

So when an opportunity to move to Rajasthan, with her paternal aunt, came up, she took it up. But due to a language barrier as Mary did not speak the local language; she faced a difficulty of finding a job here too. Her uncle was at that point working in Mahila Jan Adhikar Samiti. Her aunt and uncle convinced her that learning driving would help her find a good employment, and Marry decided to come to Jaipur to study at Women on Wheels Academy.

Coming to Azad was an enriching experience for Mary. She was originally very nervous about driving as she hadn’t driven even a bicycle before. Having lived a sheltered life up till then, Mary gained new motivation and confidence over time.

‘I have learned more in 5 months at Azad, than in my whole previous life.’

Calling the other residents and the Azad Foundation staff a second family, she thanks them for helping her become more confident. Marry is keen to do well and glad to finally have an opportunity. She wishes to be gainfully employed soon.
