Feminist Leadership
Feminist Leadership Programme
Overview
Azad’s Parvaz – Feminist Leadership Programme (FLP) aims to empower women and promote gender equality by fostering leadership skills among women in India. This programme aims to train and support young women from marginalized communities to become leaders and change-makers in their own right. Participants go through various stages of training and capacity building that cover topics such as gender equality, women’s rights, gender-based violence, communication, and leadership skills. It equips women with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to challenge social norms, demand gender equality, and lead initiatives that promote women’s rights and empowerment in their communities.

Stories of Change
“The idea of opening a free Childcare Center came from my firm belief that household chores and care work should not hinder women’s independence.”
Ratna Routh began her transformative journey as a feminist leader in Kolkata in January 2023. She gained deep insights into gender issues and the challenges faced by women in her community. This inspired her to establish a Childcare Center for resource-poor women, enabling them to access better livelihood opportunities. Ratna has also enrolled women in driving training through Azad, promoted menstrual hygiene, and addressed societal taboos, embodying her vision of equal opportunities for women and quality education for all children.

“Becoming a feminist leader transformed my life, empowering me to address community issues and champion women’s rights.”
Despite excelling in her studies, Bhavna’s dream of a medical career was hindered by financial constraints. Joining Azad transformed her, deepening her understanding of gender, patriarchy and rights. Inspired by her learnings, she addressed the lack of gender-inclusive infrastructure in her community, such as street lighting and clean public toilets. Bhavna organized self-defence training for 84 women and girls, empowering them to combat violence and in doing so, established herself as a leader in her community.
