Kamla Bhasin Awards 2024

On 30th November 2024, Azad, National Foundation for India and i-Partner India came together at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi to honour the winners of the 3rd Kamla Bhasin Awards.

Lalitha Ranjani from Sri Lanka and Sunil Mohan from India were recognised for their outstanding contributions to gender equality in South Asia. Special Jury Awards honoured Jaya Chakma from Bangladesh and Nikhil Taneja from India for their impactful work.

The award winners received a citation and INR 100,000 during the ceremony, followed by a mesmerising performance by the musical icon Usha Uthup.

In its third year, the Kamla Bhasin Award received 90 applications from across South Asia, including India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. Category 1 received 68 applications from women (cis and trans) practitioners of non-traditional livelihoods in diverse professions including bike repair mechanic, underwater fishing, football coach, trade union activist, and so on. Category 2 received 22 applications from men (cis and trans) working with other men and boys to create a gender-just ecosystem. The award ceremony received extensive media coverage, with features across 16 media channels in South Asia.
