Azad Parindey, Vol-22
This edition of Azad Parinde envisions safe and inclusive cities through the voices, writings, and artwork of Azad's community leaders and women trainees.
This newsletter brings together the vivid imaginations and powerful voices of Azad Foundation’s community leaders and drivers as they envision safe and inclusive cities. Through their writings and art, they share lived experiences of navigating urban spaces and bold ideas to transform them into havens of equality and opportunity.
While India’s cities are vibrant and full of promise, they are also plagued by deep inequalities and exclusion, particularly for marginalized groups such as women, people with disabilities, and non-binary individuals. Challenges like unsafe public transport, inaccessible infrastructure, and entrenched societal biases make urban spaces hostile and unwelcoming for many.
In this issue, the contributors shed light on critical issues such as gender-based violence, the lack of safe public spaces, and barriers to economic participation. Alongside these challenges, they offer hope and solutions, advocating for well-lit streets, gender-sensitive public transport, and inclusive urban design.
We hope this collection inspires you to imagine a collective vision for cities that are safe, inclusive, and empowering for everyone.
