Jashn-e-karwan celebrating

Event Details

AZAD FOUNDATION and Sakha, over the years, have demonstrated what it takes to not just bring women into economic mainstream but also how to sustain their participation. In the last 10 years we have been able to nurture the field of women in public transportation by enabling more than 1500 women to become employable across Delhi, Kolkata, Jaipur, Indore, Ahmedabad and Bangalore. More than 650 women across all these cities are working as chauffeurs, earning remunerative salaries as they pursue “Livelihoods with dignity”. Today, women chauffeurs have become increasingly accepted by the Government – State and Center, the industry, the civil society and most importantly by the communities we work with.

We expect to have almost 400 women drivers working across India with us on October 28th, as we not just celebrate, but use this opportunity to bond together, learn from each other and infuse ourselves with energy to sustain in pursuing our goals.

We present Jashn-e-karwan celebrating the undaunting spirit of the #WomenOnWheels themselves, that has enabled them to break boundaries and transform their life conditions in an irreversible manner.

One Billion Rising against gender violence

1 in 3 women across the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. That’s ONE BILLION WOMEN AND GIRLS. Every February, we rise together with others in hundreds of countries across the world to show our local communities and the world what one billion looks like and shine a light on the rampant impunity and injustice that survivors most often face. We rise through dance to express joy and community and celebrate the fact that we have not been defeated by this violence. We rise to show we are determined to create a new kind of consciousness – one where violence will be resisted until it is unthinkable.
THIS YEAR, WE ARE RISING IN SOLIDARITY AGAINST THE EXPLOITATION OF WOMEN in Delhi, Jaipur and Kolkata throughout December, January and February with campaign series of protest actions to culminate on 14 February 2017. Follow us on Facebook to learn more.
